ROYAL CONCERT

Advice On Access To Barracks

“Tieket-holders for the Royal choral and orchestral concert at the King Edward Baracks tomorrow evening are advised to approach the barracks on foot from the west end, where access will be easier,” the chairman of the Christchurch Civic Music Council (Sir James Hay) said yesterday. ‘‘lt is almost certain that large numbers of the general public will be assembled between the Bridge of Remembrance in Cashel street and the barracks entrance, through which the Royal party will pass,” he said. “This door is the one nearest the Bridge of Remembrance. “Patrons of the concert are again reminded that taxis should be used as much as possible, as parking will not be easy. A large area in Montreal street between Hereford street and Cashel streets has been reserved for taxis, so that at the end of the concert it will be possible for taxis to be assembled in numbers. Patrons should take the taxi at the head of the rank. Patrons coming from the concert will find it much easier to take whatever taxi is free, rather than order a special one from a taxi company.”

Public To See Set Pieces

The Botanic Gardens will be opened for the public on Sunday about 4 p.m., after the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have left to return to their hotel.

The 20 floral set pieces arranged for the Royal visit will be left in the gardens for the public to see, probably until Wednesday. The Director of Reserves (Mr H. G. Gilpin) said the time the set pieces would remain in the gardens would depend on the weather and the rate of their deterioration.

The gardens will be closed on Sunday at 7 p.m., the glasshouses closing at 5 p.m. The gates to the Botanic Gardens will be opened at 1.15 p.m. tomorrow for guests who have been invited for the Royal visit to the gardens.
