MISSING CYCLES IN CITY
354 Lost This Year
Since January 1, 354 bicycles have been reported to the Christchurch C.lB.’s bicycle inquiry office as missing. In addition, there are two sheds full of bicycles at the rear of the police station. "There are about SOO cycles there,” a constable said yesterday, “and some are brand new.”
The constable said he hoped the number of cycles stolen this year would be down on last year’s record total of 3043. Another auction of unclaimed bicycles would possibly be held in April, he said. Three truck loads—--130 in all-rtivere sold at the last auction, in November. There are now 10 members of the C.IJB.’s “cycle squad."
