Mindszenty To Stay?

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) ROME, February 12. The Rome newspaper, “II Tempo,” today said that the Roman Catholic Primate of Hungary, Cardinal Josef Mindszenty, had rejected an offer of freedom on condition that he gave up his office and left Hungary.

The Cardinal has been living in the United States Legation in Budapest, where he sought asylum during the 1956 uprising.

He had been sentenced to life imprisonment in 1949 and was released from prison during the short-lived revolt. Only the Pope could tell him to yield, the paper said.
