Record Output
Production of beer and stout in New Zealand for the IL months period up to the end of September, 1962, was 55 million gallons, says the Government Statistician ’ (Mr J. V. T. Baker). This was a record output and 4.9 per cent, higher than the previous year.
The year’s output of 366,000 gallons of stout was 2.8 per cent, lower than that for the previous year. The output of bulk beer increased from 35.6 million gallons to 373 million gallons in 1961-62, and bottled beer production from 16.8 million gallons to 17.4 million gallons, said Mr Baker. Consumption of beer and stout in 1961 remained the some as in 1960 at 22.0 gallons a head of total population. The comparable figure in 1959 was 19.7 gallons. The production of beer continued to rise in 1962 when, for the 11 i rnths ended November, 52.0 million gallons were produced. as compared with 49.6 million gallons in the corresponding period of 1961. Value added by factories in New Zealand during the period totalled £5,186,000 as against £4.648.000 in 1960-61 The factory door value of beer and stout produced in New Zealand in 1961-62 was £9,175,000 which, together with beer duty paid amounting to £15.191,000 gives a final product value of £24365,000, Mr Baker said.
