Picright At Peak; No Rider Yet Engaged

Picright performed brilliantly in his final gallop at Ricearton yesterday for the Queen Elizabeth 11. Handicap tomorrow, but no race rider has been engaged for him. “I’ll sit and wait, and get the best available on the day,” Picright’s Ricearton trainer, A. J. Williams, said yesterday.

Picright ran a mile 45ft cut on the course proper in Irnin 44 3-ssec, and looked much superior to the Woodville pair, Kingdom (M. J. Skelton) and Baloo (B. Waerea). Picright was ridden in his trial by B. S'. Finlayson. He started several lengths behind the others, but dashed up to them at the half-mile and came to the front in the straight. . Picright ran his mile nearly three seconds faster than Kingdom, which took Imin 47 l-ssec.

This was Picright’s second good gallop this week. He is right at his best, and his best is very good. Kingdom, with a lighter weight up, finished a length and a half clear of Baloo, which was ridden by a highweight jockey. Baloo is small but a good miler, and looks well for his engagement in the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes.

Sharp Sprint The Hastings-trained Moy was again impressive in her second gallop since her arrival at Ricearton. J. T. Anderson took her out to gallop six furlongs with Seaend (Miss F. Kerr), but the Ricearton filly took control for a time, and bounded away. She was restrained coming through the straight and did not make time.

Moy then sprinted six furlongs solo in Imin 17 3-ssec, the last four in 50 3-ssec. without any marked show of exertion. She is right at her best for the Queen Elizabeth II Handicap, Earlier Anderson rode in another gpod trial for the Queen Elizabeth II Handicap.

His mount was Sybeau, which appeared to shade My Contact (A. H. Eastwood) and easily beat the high-weight candidate To Reign (C. T. Wilson) over nine furlongs on the plough. My Contact, with a pull in the weights, 'finished alongside Sybeau, but the latter took the honours.

They ran the nine furlongs in Imin Msec, the last halfmile in 49 4-ssec, and the final three furlongs in 37 3-5 sec. Strong Finish The Duke of Edinburgh Stakes favourite Key (Anderson) ran six furlongs, fairly easily for a start, but strongly and impressively in the straight. She recorded Imin 19 1-5 sec for the distance, 50 3-ssec for the last half-mile, and 38 3-ssec for the final three furlongs. Safe Harbour (Wildermoth) dashed over six furlongs in Imin 17 l-ssec, the last halfmile in 50 4-ssec. She seldom fails to produce something good In her gallops. Great Sensation (Taggart) was given his stiffest test since the Wellington Cup meeting, but it was not a demanding one. He ran seven furlongs easily in Imin 35 3-ssec, the last flour in 52 sec. He is a picture of fitness. Impressive Vitamise did not run the fastest half- mile, but none was more impressive. Ridden by N. Eastwood, he gave Derailment (Reggett) and Fonteroy (Mein) a start of three lengths, and finished alongside them in 51 4-ssec. Vitamise has never looked stronger or better, and will run well in the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes. He beat Key in the CJ.C. Stewards’ Handicap at Riccarton last November and will meet her 81b better this time. Hullabaloo (Mein) and Pleasant Ways (M. J. Skelton) ran their mile in Imin 49sec and the last half in 53 2-ssec. Hullabaloo was more impressive than his companion. Manana (Reggett) worked easily from the mile and did not work up to anything like a strong gallop until the halfmile. Then be sprinted home in 52 4-ssec. Zinder (Wildermoth) ran a mile and a quarter in 2rnin 15 l-seec. Joined near the five furlongs by his stablemate Manana, Zinder ran his

last half-mile impressively in 51sec. He is fit for the Balmoral Handicap, and should take beating.

Vault (N. Eastwood) broke away ahead of Zinder and stayed clear to the end. He tired fa the strata* after cunr

ning five furlongs in Imin 6 2-ssec, and took 2min 2sec for his nine furlongs. Arakhan (Waerea) recorded 2min 0 3-ssec for nine furlongs and 53 l-ssec for the last half-mile. He did his work well in an encouraging final trial for the Newmarket High-weight. Gay Filou (Gould) led Bodkin (M. J. Skelton) by a neck, with two lengths to Compensate (Donovan) and a long neck to Bar Kochba (Thompson) ending a mile in Imin 48sec and the last halfmile in 53 2-seec. Gay Filou has often been an indifferent performer in training, and this gallop was quite satisfactory. Bodkin invariably works well, but his race form has been disappointing. Windvale Lad (N. Eastwood) took Imin 50 l-ssec

for his mile, and 53 2-ssec for the last half. Sailorman (Meaaent) took Imin 51 2-ssec for his mile, quickening for the last halfmile in 52 2-ssec. Gracefield’s Pride (A. H. East wood) led Studio (Reggett) by a length and a half and Count Pedro (N. Eastwood) was in a gap at the rear after running a mile in Imin 49 3-ssec, the last half in 53 2-ssec. Other gallops:— Course Proper Seven Furlogs. Share (Mein) length to Town Talk (Low), Imin 34 3-ssec. last half 53 l-ssec; Begame (Low) two lengths to Purr Along (Taggart), Imin 33eec, last half 54 l-ssec. Six Furlongs. Mhor (Beck) and Marlborough (Anderson), Imin 20 3-ssec. last half 52 l-ssec; Gold Shower (F. Skelton) and Zero (Reggett), Imin 18sec, last half, 51 2-ssec. Skelton) and Scuffle (Mein), 50 4-ssec; Magician (Reggett) and Misjudge (Mein), 50 2-,'isec; Candida (Messent) and Paua (N. Eastwood), 52sec; Glentarkin (Low), 51 3-ssec; Gaytana (Beck) and Helen’s Bay (Donovan, 51 4-ssec; On Account (M. Skelton) and Barwood (Gould), 50 2-ssec; Monetary (Anderson) alongside Windvale Lass (N. Eastwood) after starting two lengths behind, 51 3-ssec. Three Furlongs. Boundless (Mein) better than Tuborg (M. Skelton), 39 4-ssec.

Plough Seven Furlongs. Golden Vanity (Beck), Tar Boy (Taggart) and Pyrites (A. Eastwood), Imin 32 3-ssec, last half 54sec; Francisco (Mrs Clutterbuck), alongside Yosemite (C. T. Wilson) after starting two lengths behind, Imin 3Lsec, last half mile, 50 4-ssec. Three Furlongs. Last Count (A Eastwood), 36 4-ssec.
