MR HOPKINS’ PLANS

In N.Z. Until December

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 13. Mr John Hopkins, newlyappointed musical director for the Australian Broadcasting Commission, said today that his New Zealand commitments may keep him here until December. His third term as conductor of the National Orchestra ends late in November. Mr Hopkins, who took up the conductorship of the National Orchestra in 1957, said that in his new job he would be a performing musician as well as director of music. To combine conducting with administration was a new concept to him. Before his return to Nevi Zealand on Sunday, Mr Hopkins spent two weeks at the national music camp at Geelong, and another two weeks in Melbourne with the Victorian Symphony Orchestra. He will return Australia in May to conduct 11 concerts—eight in Sydney and three In Melbourne.

N.Z.B.C. Seeking Conductor

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 13. The New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation will advertise in New Zealand and overseas for a principal conductor and an associate conductor to take charge of the National Orchestra, the Concert Orchestra, the National Youth Orchestra and. the corporation’s orchestral trainees. The National Orchestra conductor, Mr John Hopkins, has resigned to become musical director of the Australian Broadcasting Commission.
