Transport To N.Z. Championships

(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, February 14.

A Timaru bus department 34-seater coach has been hired by the Timaru and Oarnaru Rowing Clubs to take rowers to the Dominion championships at Lake Karapino towards the end of the month. It will be the first time a Timaru municipal bus has travelled to the North Island. The bus manager (Mir F. E. Madlin) said the coach, with Mr R. Thomae as driver, would be driven to Picton and would cross in the Aramoana under a special permit issued by the Transport Department. The bus will leave Timaru on February 22.

The Oarnaru Rowing Club will be represented in the junior and maiden fours. Timaru, whose sole entry won the junior fours at last year’s New Zealand contest at Kerrs Reach, will take part in the championship fours—last year's winning four will use a new boat—and youths and novice fours will enter two crews in the junior fours Timaru will also be represented in the junior and senior parrs, Timaru’s coaches are Messrs F. Freeman and D. Burtenshaw. The two head coxswains, 15-year-old twin brothers Wayne and Roes Currie, two 7st 121 b St. Patrick’s High School students who have represented the Timaru Rowing Club for several yeans, will make their last appearance in this capacity, Ross in the seniors and juniors, and Wayne in the novice and juniors.
