GUILTY OF BURGLARY
Steel Erector For Sentence
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 13. After a retirement of an hour and 50 minutes a jury in toe Supreme Court at Auckland tonight found Brian Lennox, aged 31. a steel erector, guilty of five charges of burglary. Mr Justice Gresson remanded Lennox for sentence.
Lennox was charged with breaking into toe Panmure Hotel in October, 1961, and committing theft, unlawfully entering the house of Leonard Waiter Denison with intent to commit a crime, breaking into toe shop of Walter Denison, Ltd., with intent, breaking into the Bank of New Zealand at Takapuna with intent, and breaking into toe premises of John Court, Ltd., with intent.
The charge relating to Denison’s house was amended from one of breaking and entering during toe trial. At the opening of toe trial toe Crown Prosecutor, Mr G. D. Speight, said that about £2OOO was stolen from toe Panmure Hotel. Keys were stolen from Denison’s house and rings and money worth about £lOOO were stolen from his shop. About £4OOO was stolen from John Court, Ltd., when a safe was cwt open. Proceeds from all toe burglaries were found in one spot. The trial lasted three days.
