TROTTING Garcon d’Or Showed Speed At Hutt Park

Garcon d’Or was outstanding when he won the Windsor Handicap at the Royal meeting at Hutt Park Raceway on Monday night and he should eventually reach top company for his Wellington owner, Mr R. A. McKenzie. Garcon d’Or attracted attention when first he was produced by his Yaldhurst trainer, G. B. Noble. That was in the Riccarton Stakes last November at Addington. He was not at ease in the going and finished seventh.

Garcon d’Or then contested the New Zealand Derby Stakes won in record time by Tactile. He lost ground early and finished brilliantly for third, taking 3min 11 l-ssec for the mile and a half. He was second to Field Chief in the Rai d’Or Stakes at Waimate in December before failing in the Rangiora Challenge Stakes and the Great Northern Derby. He gained his first win when he beat Adio Star in a division of a maiden race at Washdyke on January 12 and a week later he gained the easiest of wins over Tutankhamen in the Onslow Handicap at Auckland after taking 2min 59 2-ssec for the 11 furlongs. As a result of his Auckland win, Garcon d’Or, which was bracketed with another form runner, Filet Mignon, was backed down to a short price on Monday night. His supporters had no really anxious moments and he won very easily in the finish by three lengths from the pacemaker, Maggie Spangler. Garcon d’Or should show further sharp improvement in the next few months and eventually he should develop worth-while open handicap

Garcon d’Or is a chestnut colt by the ill-fated Captain Adios from Scotch Paree, a splendid winner at the trotting gait a few years ago. Her wins included the New Zealand Hambletonian Handicap at Addington. Garcon d’Or is her second foal, her first being sold to an Australian buyer. By U. Scott Scotch Paree was got by U. Scot tfrom Parisienne, by Rey de Oro. Parisienne left two New Zealand Sapling Stakes winners in La Mignon (the dam of Filet Mignon) and Golden Hero, as well as Bohemian, Agricola, and

Spring Fashion. Other winners from this family include Scottish Command, Heather Mary and Coral Princess. Maggie Spangler was far from disgraced when beaten by Garcon d’Or and her 3min 13 3-ssec for the mile and a half has ■ seldom been bettered by filly.

Maggie Spangler, a member of G. Cameron's New Brighton team, paced a splendid race in front and it was only over the final furlong that she was mastered. She is by Meadow Chief from Special Attack and if she trains on as well as expected, she should soon gain an overdue win.

Maggie Spangler’s stablemate, Solemn, a half-sister by Flying Song to Kola, winner of the Sandringham Handicap earlier on Monday night did well to finish third. She was slow away and then suffered a bad check. She was still some 24 yards from the leaders with five furlongs left and put in a great run for her placing. Solemn, which has not been too reliable at the start of some of her races, looks to have become more solid lately and she should not .be hard to place to advantage in the next few months. Semi Circle Semi Circle has been sold and is now being trained at Addington by R: Young. A five-year-old mare by Fallacy from Silver Circle, Semi Circle has been unplaced this season, but she has shown sufficient ability in training to make an early return for her new owners. Track Work The main track at Addington will be available for training on Sunday morning. It will be open between 7.30 a.m. and 9.30 a.m. for all horses, but will be restricted between 9.30 a.m. and 11.30 a m. to horses engaged at the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s autumn meeting next Wednesday. The starting gate will be available for one hour from 10.30 a.m. for trainers wanting to practice behind it. Brought North Flying Paddy, a brother to Flying Note and other winners, came north after the Forbury Park meeting and he is now being trained at West Eyreton by H. M. Kerr. Flying Paddy showed considerable promise in Otago and Southland early in his career, but he has been a big disappointment this season. He will have plenty of opportunities in Canterbury in the next few months. Well Related Quesnel, which is to have his first start at a totalisator meeting in the Southern Stakes, a race for three-year-olds at Invercargill on Saturday, is bred to develop useful form. Raced by Mr C. E. Dillon, he is trained by R. Kemble at Gore. He is a gelding by Garrison Hanover from Queen’s Honour and is a brother to Garrison Royal

and a' half-brother to King Hal, two outstanding winners prepared by C. S. Donald for Mr Dillon. Bazax Sold Bazax has been purchased by Messrs S. Andrews and G. S. McHerron, of Christchurch, and he has joined W. M. Denton’s team at Yaldhurst. Bazax, a place-getter in four of his six starts this season, is a six-year-old gelding by Hal Tryax from Bazure and he is a brother to the highly-promising three-year-old, Part Time, an impressive winner'at the recent Forbury Park meeting. Messrs Andrews and McHerron have had three wins this season with Royal Brittania, which has been trained for them by P. Wolfenden. It is expected that Bazax will eventually go north to the Auckland district.
