(N J 3 Jt.-Reuter—Copyright) NEW DELHL February 13. The “Indian Express” said today China had exploded her first nuclear device in the Sinkiang Desert on January 11. The report came from Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim.
Seismologists said the Seismological Observatory in New Delhi had not recorded anything on the night of January 11 even remotely attributable to a nuclear explosion. The “Indian Express” said: “Tremors were felt in Bhutan and Sikkim for about 15 seconds on the night of January 11. Rattling sounds were also heard, large illuminated clouds are reported to have been seen emerging from the Sinkiang Desert about the same time.
“Tibetan refugees said the Chinese had been making extensive arrangements in Sinkiang to explode a nuclear device. No other confirmation is available here.”
