OFFENCES ON ROADS
Points System Suggested (N.Z. Press Astociation) WELLINGTON, Feb. 11. A pointe system introduced on a triad basis as a means of improving driving behaviour is to be proposed to the Road Safety Council by the entorcement committee. It was proposed to have pitot schemes in the Canterbury and Waikato transport districts, the council said today. Under the points system, demerit points—one up to 10. accord ing to the gravity of the offence—-go on the driver’s record of convictions. First he is warned: At 10 be is put off the roads. He may wipe the slate dean by a period of some years (generally three) of correct driving. The system on that basis is strictly impersonal. Nothing goes by favour.
