The route wm along toe north coast of Africa through Benghazi, Cairo, Shetoai, and then by ferry to Wadi Haifa. The next leg, to Khartoum, is said to be toe world's ■ worst road and is 580 ■ miles Jong. The journey’ then continued through J Ethiopia and Nairobi to I Cape Town. The average [ speed over this last section was 88.71 miles an hour.
