FROZEN LAMB BY AIR
Consigned To Sydney
When a T.E.A.L. aircraft left Christchurch airport for Sydney last evening, it carried two cartons containing 801 b of frozen lamb consigned by the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company to a Sydney firm. The meat is being sent by the company as an experiment, with a view to expanding the market for New Zealand meat in Australia.
No provision for refrigeration of the meat while aboard the aircraft was made—“there is only a short time involved before the meat goes into store in Sydney," said the assistant manager of the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company (Mr N. A. Bergin) yesterday. Meat is carried by the aircraft at a special rate, which is lower than usual freight rates. This has been approved by the Meat Board. Regular consignments of meat are sent abroad by air from Wellington and Auckland.
