The Italian Centro-Sud racing team is expected to return to Formula One racing this season with two Coopers, possibly with BR.M. engines. ¥ * ¥
Team Lotus is to race a team of three LotusCortinas in saloon car events in Britain, the cars being driven by Jim Clark, T. Taylor, and P. Arundel. Some very fast laps have been recorded in tests, and judging by the performance of these cars in road trim they may well make some big changes in the very competitive British saloon racing scene. ¥ * ¥
Dunlop has developed special tubeless tyres for Donald Campbell’s attempt on the land speed record at Lake Eyre this year. The tyres have been tested at speeds up to 500 miles an hour with heavy braking and similar rough treatment. It is said the use of tubeless tyres will save a great deal of weight The tyres are very delicate when not inflated and can be completely ruined by a sharp blow on the sidewall when in this condition. Each tyre costs £lOOO. ¥ ¥ ¥
Two events for standard unmodified saloons are included in the programme of the Auckland Car Club's meeting at Pukekohe tomorrow. The events will be run in two classes, for vehicles up to 1600 c.c. and for vehicles over this capacity. Each event will be 11 miles (five laps) and the only modification allowed is the removal of mufflers.
