Part Time Defeats Stakes Favourite

DUNEDIN, Jan. 31

Part Time, a splendid type of colt by Hal Tryax from Bazure in R. H. Henley’s InvarcargUl team, gamed a good win over the favourite. Filet Mignon, in the Forbury Three-year-old Stakes tonight. Part Time was about fourth moet of the way and improved to follow Forshy into the straight, with Misty Haze, Filet Mignon, Gay Robin and St. Nazaire prominent. Forshy was soon in trouble and Part Time took over. He fought on strongly to win by half a length. Filet Mignon tangled slightly *t the start and showed speed to hold second from Gay Robin, which looked most unlucky. GayRobin was badly checked at the start and showed tremendous speed to take third only a neck behind Filet Mignon. Misty Hase paced a sound race for fourth, shading Forshy. with St Nazaire close up, clear of Garry Kent and Aufleem TOO SOLID Oakleigh Lad. which broke for a few strides at the start, was too solid afterwards for his rivals in the Leith Handicap. which he won most convincingly. The majority of hts rivals made more than one lapse. Oro Brigade broke when in from while racing to the straight Rebel and Medieval were also in a break, with Snap On nandy Oakleigh Lad was clear at the furlong and he won unchallenged by three lengths from Medieval, which galloped tor mo* of the last three furlongs. Snap On was a head back thud, a length in front of Rebel, with Oro Brigade and Flymg Paddy together clear of Dubbo J After an inquiry Medieval was disqualified foe galloping. Snap On was promoted to second. Rebel to third and Oo Brigade to fourth. SIRRAH’S WIN Sirrah, which broke badly and finished well back on Saturday, made amends with a narrow win in the Kew Handicap. He was well back in the field most of the way. having nine horses in front of him with five furlongs left Faru took the lead at the end of three furlongs and a half and was still in front racing to the straight where Lakeda, Aiblins, Lilt Bright Ensign. Terako Queen, Sirrah (wide* Vanese and Congruent were close in a bunched field. Aiblins wa< Ute working clear, but be got through on the inside of Lakeda about half a furlong out Sirrah then came on the scene with a great burst wide out and got up to the last few strides to win by a head from Aiblins.

Lakeda, after racing on the outside of Aiblins in third place tar most of the way. was only half a length back thira, a length in front of Lilt which was never far away Faru was tiring a neck away shading Vanese. Terako Queen. Ingiemead and Congruent Loyal Brigade broke and took no part while Inglemead and Storm Water lost ground at the start.

Tarseal which was pulled up, Gay Jillian, Dark Lorene, Harbour Light, Doctor Kyle and Astralight made mistakes early DEADHEAT Cairnbrae and Avante deadheated tor first in a keen finish to the second leg of the double, the Royal Handicap Garry Logan set a sound pace aD the way, with Cairnbrae moving up to second place racing to the straight. Avante was awkwardly placed next oo the inside of Gold Globe, clear of Antonins and Young Conga. Cairnbrae looked set for an easy win just inside the furlong but Avante finished witn a paralysing run and got up in the last stride to deadheat for first with him. Garry Logan which was making his first appearance from F. E. Newfield's stable, held on for third two lengths and a half away, dear of Gold Globe, with Robin Dundee making ground for fifth ahead of Van Rebeck and Antonios. Stormlight. Van Rebeck, Rustic Lad. Trade Fair completed a double for the meeting when he outclassed the field in the Roslyn Handicap. He took the lead from Moose at the end of three furlongs and from then on he had his rivals well covered. Trade Fair was followed to the straight by Catamite, Moose, whit* was struggling to keep up, Rembrandt. Great Credit and Dark Louise. The pace-maker was always pacing easily and won by two lengths and a half from Great Credit, which paced an outstanding race from 24 yards, after breaking at the start Calumite, after being handy throughout, battled on for a fair third, ahead of the tiring Moose, with Dark Louise fifth, followed by Southern Cross and Rembrandt. Van Rush was checked and broke, interfering with Winona. with teas than five furlongs to run. Later, after an inquiry. Great Credit was disqualified and Calumite, Moose and Dark Louise were promoted.
