(Florida), January 30. The 42-year-old ring veteran, Sugar Ray Robinson, came back in the late rounds tonight to score a 10round split decision over the favoured 27-year-oid, Ralph Dupas. Robinson, still hoping for a seventh world championship, made good use of his 1211 b weight advantage as he scored hia one hundred and atty-third victory in his career of 167 bouts by a very narrow margin. United Pres* International reported. The telling factor agalnrt Dupas was his lack of punch as he bowed to the former welterweight and five-time middleweight champion. It appeared in the early rounds that Dupas, the 5 to 3 favourite, would win on points.
The referee awarded Robinson 08 points to Dupas’ 96 and one judge made ft 97-94. However, the second judge made ft 98-94 with the advantage going to Dupas. The crowd booed when the decision was announced. There were no knockdowns.
Dupas was annoyed afterwards. "What do you have to do to win in Miami Beach?" he asked. ‘This is the third time in a row I've been robbed in this town.**
