Frames, Bodies From Japan

WELLINGTON, January 31. The Railways Department will buy 100 under-frames and bodies from a Japanese firm for new 25-ton capacity insulated waggons. The bogies and some other parts for these VR class waggons will be made in railway workshops where they will be assembled reedy for use The Minister of Railways <Mr McAlpine) said today that world-wide tenders had been called. Nine manufacturers in five countries sent in 20 tenders. The tender accepted—the lowest—was from the Sumitomo Shoji Kaisha, Ltd.
