THE Makaraka Cemetery, near Gisborne, was officially closed m 1915, and the Council now has under consideration a proposal to clear all graves of monuments, fences, etc., and to re-site as many monuments as possible on a concrete base located at one side of the cemetery. Any graves now kept in good order, also the monument to the victims of the Te Kooti massacre, will not be disturbed. The cemetery would be then levelled, regrassed, and maintained as a reserve.
