CLOTHING FROM C.O.R.S.O.
Three Shipments Sent This Year Although the 30 voluntary workers at the C.0.R.5.0. distribution centre for North and Mid-Canterbury, Marlborough, and the West Coast met yesterday to plan their work for the year, many bales of clothing have already been sent overseas. The first shipment of clothing went to London to be distributed to refugee camps in Western Germany. A shipment of about 15,000 garments has been sent to Hong Kong and another of 18,000 to Greece. At present more than 7000 garments are being packed to be sent to South Korea at the beginning of next month. The clothing given to toe centre is packed and sent away almost immediately.
One of C.O.RS.O.’s main plans for the year is to carry on last year’s work for the United Nations Freedom from Hunger campaign. About £42,500 was collected from the area last year. This went towards the Dominion total of £317.000. The target for the appeal is £500,000.
