73-MILE WALK
Scouts Go To See Queen
(NX Preu Association) HAMILTON. January 29. At 7.30 a.m. today eight boy scouts of the Hillcrest (Hamilton) troop, began a 73mile hike to Tauranga to see the Queen. While people of the Hamilton suburb were preparing to catch the bus to work, the lads—ranging in age from 12 to 14 years—hitched their packs and began their adventure.
Their walk is planned to take 10 days, the longest stage br.ng of 11 miles over the Kaimais.
Supplies will be taken to the hikers at the end of each stop, where they will cook their own meals in the best scout tradition.
Sea Cadets In Frigate
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Jan. 29. Six sea cadets, all secondary school pupils, are aboard the frigate H.MJfJZ.S. Otago which will meet the Royal yacht Britannia at Lautoka on Friday.
They are M. J. Creagh (Wellington), A. J. Bethgate (Tateri), A. I. Martin (Christchurch), K. H. Henderson (Dunedin), A. Clifford (Tauranga), and R. Brown (Auckland).
Governor’s Message
