Australia To Aid Vietnam

January 27 Australia is to give South Vietnam a further £A250000 worth of aid during the financial year, the External Affairs Minister (Sir Garfield Barwick! announced Australia already has contributed £A25.000 this year for refugee relief there, and the new .allocation would be used to supply barbed wire and other equipment for the Vietnamese Government’s "strategic hamlet programme" The programme consisted of fortifying villages against attacks and infiltration by Communist guerrillas.
