ERRORS BY LAVER
Rosewall Wins At Auckland (NX. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, Jan. 29. The world champion professional tennis player. K R. Rosewall, beat R. A. Laver, 6-4, 6-4. at Auckland today before a crowd of 3000.
In the first of a series of matches by the professional troupe in New Zealand, Laver comsnltteed frequent errors. Some of these were caused by the superb skill with which Rosewall placed the ball and by the length he maintained. But most of the errors were attributable to Laver's anxiety to hit the right shot off the wrong ball.
The remaining members of the troupe, H Gimeno, of Spain, and L. Ays la. of Chile, were good value. If their singles match sometimes had a genteel look, with backhand cross-court duels of no great pace and the ball pitching about three-quarter-court, it was well fought end both played backhands down the line with fine touch. Scores:— K. R. Rosewall beat R. A. Laver, 6-4. 6-4; A. Gimeno beat L. Ayala, 4-6. 6-r 8-6; Rosewall and Laver beat Ayala and Gimeno. 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
