Wool Prices Firmer At First Wellington Sale

(Neu> Zealand Press Association)

WELLINGTON. Jan. 28.

The official report on the Wellington wool sale issued by the Wellington Woolbrokere* Association in conjunction with the New Zealand Woolbuyers’ Association and the New Zealand Wool Commission states that the first sale of the Wellington January double sale was held todav in the Town Hall when 26,553 bales were offered to a full bench of buyers. The bulk of the selection comprised fleece wool with the usual offering of oddments and a fair selection of lambs’ wool Although the wool opened up well some discolouration was showing.

Compared with prices ruling at the Napier sale fine wools are quoted slightly dearer with all other fleece wool very firm to sellers’ favour.

Prices for bellies and pieces were barely maintained. Good length lambs’ wool was firm, but shorter and faulty descriptions were inclined to be erratic and tended in buyers’ favour. Continental buyers took the bulk of the offering with support from the United Kingdom. Coarse wools were taken by the U.S.A, and buyers operating on behalf of Japanese interests took the Southdown and down cross types .
