Club’s Night Competition

If the South Christchurch Tennis Club continued to ignore repeated approaches by the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association regarding the playing of unafflliated clubs In Its night competition, it might be suspended. It was decided by the association's management committee last evening. The matter, in the form of a notice-of-motlon, will be brought before the delegates* meeting in March and consideration as to the action to be taken will then be given. The South Christchurch club could be suspended immediately. but it would probably bo better to discuss it at the March meeting, said Mr R. P. Murphy. Several times the association had tried to get In touch with the club to obtain some sort of an understanding but the club had Ignored the association.

“I think we have to force something,” said Mr Murphy. The club had been "softpedalled" for five years It was up to the delegates to decide whether they should keep the club affiliated or not. Mr R. B. Brown said that it would not make any difference to the South Christchurch juniors playing in Canterbury association tournaments whether the club was suspended or not ss most of them were still at school. The chairman (Mr G. E. R. Atkinson) said that the association had rules and regulations and clubs should be expected to abide by them. Finances A loss of about £230 was reported on the recent visit by the Mexican Davis Cup team to Christchurch. Gate-takings had been £199 and expenses had amounted to more than £420

A net profit of £lO4 2s 9d was made on the Canterbury junior
