WELLINGTON, Jan. 28. The Wellington Technical College hoard, of managecMOt tonaght acted in defiance ot the WeUtaßton district council of the Federation of Labour, which ted requested the resignation of a board member.
The board decided to retain the member, Mr A V. Newberry, until the end of his three-year term next August, although the Labour council ted said kt no longer regarded han as its representative. A letter to the board from the council asked that Mr Newberry resign in the interests of good relations between the council and the board.
Mr Newberry said the council wanted his resignation because be disagreed with the Federation of Labour’s policy of favouring the Maori Education Foundation. Relations between the council and the college board had previously been good, he said.
After the meeting one of the board numbers, Mr J. G. Marshall, said Mr Newberry was on the board to advise on occupations and foe his knowledge of the electrical trade. “It’s not for an outsider to come along and move us off the board,” Mr Marshall said. “They have no right to do that.”
