GOOD RUN WITH 9-8
Sir Henry’s Success
Sir Henry showed
his qualities as a weight-carrying miler by winning the January Handicap under 9-8 at Trentham on Saturday. This was his third win In a light programme this season. The others were the King's Plate at Ellerslie and the Flying Handicap at Te Awamutu. The long-striding Sir Henry is not easy to ride in big fields, and he did not get a good run in the George Adams Handicap on the second day of the meeting. But J. F. Grylta was able to find plenty of galloping room for him on Saturday, and he won handily, if narrowly
The best of his rivals was the Takanini-trained Winnipeg IL which ran him to a neck.
W. D. Skelton had to change his ground on Winnipeg II in the straight to clear the tiring Royal Filou, so the Pride of Kildare mate’s second was meritorious.
Tom Foolum, a newcomer at the meeting, shaded Big Mac for third, and Tyrol was close ait hand fifth in an interesting finish for the minor placdngs. The favourite, Tara's Pride, ran a weak race for a distant eighth.
