TOP SENIOR MEN’S TEAM BEATEN

The leading team in the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association’s senior men’s competition suffered an unexpected defeat when matches were continued after the holiday break at the United Club’, court, on Saturday. North Linwood beat University by 4 matches to 2. In the other contests Cashmere beat Woolston by 4 matches to 2. Edgeware beat Barrington by 7 sets to 6, and United beat Elmwood by 4 matches to 1. Among the notable individual matches were the defeat of W. Thom (Elmwood) by R. McCutcheon (United) ana the defeat of L. Watkins (Elmwood) by W. Lewthwaite (United).
