London Firm, But Sydney Gains

LONDON, January 25, The London January wool sales closed with greasy fine crossbreds firm on Thursday's level but with a small movement in buyers’ favour for medium qualities, state the London Wool Brokers, Ltd. and the London agency of the New Zealand Wool Commission in a joint report. Scoured crossbreds were very firm and slipes unchanged. Competition was strongly maintained throughout the sale and the Continent was noticeably more active on finer crossbreds. Strong Advance A further strong advance this week brought wool prices to the highest levels since 1958, according to a New Zealand Press Association message from Sydney. All-round gains in average wool prices of from 3d to 5d per lb followed gains ranging from 3d to 7d per lb last week. Average prices for Merino wools, clean on flow, now stands 7j to 10 per cent higher than at the December ctoee. Merino fleeces and skirting* were 2| per eent higher and crossbreds 5 per eent higher than in the previous week.
