World Tide Contenders
Four New Zealanders are expecting to compete In the world championships for Olympic Finn yachts later this year. This was announced by a spokesman for the Finn Owners* Association (Mr D. Newell, of Auckland) to “The Press," yesterday.

The official representative* will be chosen after the Dominion title serie* at Nelson in two weeks. The top man will travel on a £5OO grant, made to the association by a tobacco company. The reserve- skipper will be paid for by the Finn owners themselves. Canterbury skippers have already raised £250 and Aucklanders have raised more than £l5O for this.
The two private entries will be P. Letcher and Newell, both from Auckland, neither of whom is likely to be in the first two. The New Zealand title holder, H. Roberts, will defend his title at Nelson. He will have strong competition from his younger brother. C. A. Roberts, who won the Auckland title this summer from P. G. Mander (Christchurch), Olympic Gold medallist and former national title holder, R. J. Watson (Auckland), who won the Australia and New Zealand title at Sydney last year, and H. Pedersen, the former Danish Olympic reserve helmsman. who is now living in Auckland. The world championships will be held in Holland in August.
