TIMARU, January 27. A party of eight Australians led by an experienced woman climber, Mrs D. Butler, crossed the Graham Saddle (8795 ft at the head of the Rudolf Glacier from the West Coast side of the Mam Divide in the Mount Cook region at the week-end. The party, which was at Aimer Hut, near the bead of Franz Josef Glacier, before crossing the pass on Saturday, came out to the Hermitage today from the de la Beche Hut (4789 ft the finishing point for crossings of the saddle at the junction of the Rudolf and Tasman Glaciers.
The Mount Cook National Park Board’s chief ranger (Mr J. L. Burke) said this evening there were now no climbing parties in the area. The huts were empty and it was raining and blowing this evening.
