TENNIS Mexico Goes Into Challenge Round

MADRAS, December 4. Mexico today won its way into its first ever Davis Cup tennis challenge round. It clinched a winning 3-0 lead over India in the interzone final for the right to meet Australia in Brisbane later this month.
R. Osuna and A. Palafox sealed matters for Mexico by beating J. Mukherjea and P. Lai, 10-8, 12-10, 6-4, in the doubles. Earlier, Osuna had beaten Krishnan, 8-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-8, 6-4, in a hard-fought singles match, resumed after being halted last night by bad light.
The match began yesterday after rein had prevented play on Saturday and Sunday. Palafox quickly put Mexico ahead with a 9-7, 6-1, 6-2 win over Mukherjea in the Opening singles. In the doubles. Mukherjea and Lai played well for India, but the star of the match was Palafox, who overshadowed his highly rated partner Osuna.
