Retesting Drivers
Sir, —A proposal, sponsored by the Canterbury Automobile Association recommends that a certain number of motorists, selected at random, should be tested each year on their knowledge of the road code and general proficiency as drivers. Naturally, the opinion of the A.A. on such matters commands respect, and any effective steps it can take to improve toe standard of road safety and courtesy should be more than welcome. Nevertheless, a proposal of to is nature would inevitably mean more regulations; and our legislators, given an inch, are not habitually reluctant to grab an ell. Perhaps, however, one of these days toe worm, giving, of course, toe appropriate signal, will turn.— Yours, etc., M.T. November 30, 1962.
