Disaster Plans Criticised
(N Z Press Association > AUCKLAND, Nov. 30. Auckland Metropolitan Council members strongly criticised the Civil Defence Bill tonight They approved the establishment of a disaster organisation. but claimed the Government should supply the necessary finance. The council passed a resolution expressing “grave concern at the attempt of the Minister of Internal Affairs to impose by legislation on local authorities the responsibility of civil defence without the Government providing the necessary finance for the civil defence measures to be implemented by the local authorities.”
Messrs C G. E. Harker, M P. for Hawke’s Bay. and H. Johnstone. M.P. for Waipa, returned to Auckland by air yesterday after attending the conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association at Lagos, Nigeria.— (PA.)
