Silver Wood, Approval In First Leg At Omoto

Plans for Silver Wood and Approval have been completed. Both wilt run in the Hannan Memorial Handicap, first leg of the T.A.B. double at Omoto today. Approval was scratched yesterday from the Telegraph Handicap, second leg of the main double on the first day of the Greymouth Jockey Club’s summer meeting. Silver Wood is still an acceptor in both races, but her Blenheim trainer, R. B. Taylor, said in Greymouth yesterday that she will be a definite starter in the first leg.

There i* • possibility,— although only •Light—that Silver Wood could start in both race*. That deeMcn will be left to the Tarpu mare’e Blenheim owner, Mr J. A. Fowler.

Silver Wood will probably be the popular fancy in a •mail but representative field tor the Hanna® Memorial. She will have only five rivals and Voiterra, one of three runners West Coast trainees will saddle, might be the best of them.

Canterbury will be represented by Approval, from Riccarton, and the Orarttrained Jidtoch. A peak performance by either could get them into the finish. Firm track gallopers will have conditions to their iiking today. On firm ground the open sprinters in the Telegraph Handicap, second leg of the main double, may find Lola difficult to match. Approval and Hopeful were strong rival* to drop out of the field yesterday and now that Silver Wood i* an unlikely runner a* well, Lola's position as favourite could be consolidated. Hopeful was one of four members of G. H. Murfitt jar's. team which were involved in a float accident on the way to the meeting. The other* which are unable to

fulfil their ergagements aire Payout (Harman Memorial), Argus (Blackball Hack Handicap) and Sirtax (Novice Stakes No. 1). Sirtax would have been one of the strong fancies in the first leg of a double for course patrons only. The distinction of favourite may

now go to Loch View In the Novice Stakes No. 1.

The second leg of this double will be the Brurmer Hack Handicap. Red Jimmy could prove the best of the iniian in this event.

There has been a dry. warm spell in Greymouth during the week. A oontioumuon of these condsticsna is forecaet for today. Fields are:—
