Hospital News In Brief
Application is to be made to the Health Department for more house surgeons to be made available to the North Canterbury Hospital Board in 1964. The medical super-intendent-in-chief (Dr. T. Morton) said the lack of house surgeons was already serious, and the allocation for 1963 was down further to 18, as compared with 19 this year. He did not think, however, that there was any hope of getting next year’s numbers raised.
Laundering Problems.— The sheepskins used in hospitr Is to prevent bed-sores in geriatric patients were unsuitable for use in private homes because of laundering difficulties. the assistant secretary (Mr D. Horne) said in answer to inquiries by board members. The skins had to be "laundered to a formula,” he said. The board approved the purchase of 12 new skins for the Princess Margaret Hospital. Estimates Approved.— The board’s estimates for the year ended March 31, 1953, have been approved by the Health Department. The totals are: maintenance, £1,769,507; capital, £288,358; total £2.057.865. Best-seller. — Dr. F. O. Bennett’s Christchurch Hospital centennial history, “Hospital on the Avon,” had been a best-seller, Mr D. Macmillan told the board. The printing of 1200 copies was sold out by November 5.
