CAPSIZED DINGHY
Owner Swims Forkland fJV.Z Press Association) AUCKLAND, November 25. A Te Atatu bootmaker. Mr W. Bennett, of Matipo road, had to swim for his life while three friends looked on helplessly when a 15ft outboard dinghy capsized half a mile off Rangitoto Island about 5 pm. on Saturday. Mr Bennett was caught in a strong current and swept away from the dinghy. His three friends, Messrs T. S. Brunton, of Taramea street, Avondale, D. Resama, of Williamson avenue ,and A. North, erf Newmbrket, clung to the upturned boat until they were picked up about half an hour later in an outboard dinghy owned by Messrs H. F. Bardsiey and T. J. Gilbert, of Glendowie. Mr Bennett said today that his boat capsized when he walked along the catwalk to pull up the anchor. “It just turned turtle and before I knew what was happening I was being swept away,” he said. “The current was terrific so I just struck out for Rangitoto.” Half an hour later Mr Bennett was within 40 yards of the island when he wa) picked up by Messrs Gilbert and Bardsiey. Mr Bennett bought the dinghy for £5O on Friday.
