UNIVEISITY VACANCIES THE AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF ADVANCED STUDIES APPLICATIONS are Invited for the Chair of Political Science within the Research School of Social Sciences. Institute of Advanced Studies. The Chair has become vacant by the death ot Professor L. C. Webb. Salary of the Chair is at present EA4708 Reasonable travel and removal expenses are payable. One year's study leave, with travel allowance, will be granted after each three year's service. Financial provision is also made for field work. The Professor will be Head of the Department of -Political Science. It will be his duty to conduct and to organise research within his Department, and to supervise the work of a small number of post-graduate students proceeding to the Ph D. degree. The establishment of the Department consists at present of the Professor, two Readers, one Fellow, three Research Fellows, and three Research Assistants. Research recently in progress within the Denartment includes work on political institutions and movements. political theory, comparative political studies and public administration. The University does not wish to prescribe in advance the field of work of the new Head of the Department. At least five years’ adult technical experience is required for appointment at T.A. status. The appointment in Agricultural Chemistry is made under a three-year grant from the United States Public Health Service for the support of a research project into the biochemistry of plant viruses. For the appointment in the Department of Organic Chemistry some experience as a technician in a chemical laboratory will be expected, and knowledge of use or maintenance of complex apparatus used in an organic chemical laboratory will be an advantage. The Assistant will be required to supervise the work of a number of junior laboratory attendants. SALARY SCALE: £AU26— 35—1336. In each case the initial salary will be fixed in accordance with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
