AIRCRAFT RETURNS
One Engine Useless (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 19. With one engine useless, a National Airways Corporation Viscount airliner landed safely at Wellington airport just before 6 o’clock tonight. Twenty passengers aboard were back where they started after an afternoon of delays. Die Viscount left Wellington for Auckland at 2 p.m. but bed weather over Raglan forced it to turn back to Palmerston North. The aircraft refuelled before leaving again for Auckland at 4.50 pjn.
Twenty-five minutes later a booster pump on a port engine collapsed. Captain J. Winefield brought the Viscount back to Wellington for repairs, making a perfect landing with three engines as emergency services stood by. The passengers left once more for Auckland on two later flights.
