AUCKLAND REVISITED
Informal Drive By Governor (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 19. The Governor-General (Sir Bernard Fergusson) made a short sentimental journey around Auckland today visiting many spots he remembers from his boyhood days. He surprised many adults and children by walking away from the official party and chatting to bystanders informally.
“I am just going around looking at places I knew when I was about your age,” he told 13-year-old Spencer Allen, r e of the scores of pupils from King's School who lined Remuera road to give the viceregal party a cheer. “Some of the places have changed considerably.” he added.
No more than 50 persons—most of them the wives of airmen—watched Sir Bernard and Lady Fergusson arrive at Whenuapai airport this morning.
After inspecting the R.N.Z.A.F. guard, their Excellencies left by car for their Auckland hotel.
Sir Bernard Fergusson had a cheery wave for a crowd of about 30 waiting for the vice-regal party as their car drew up at the Star Hotel shortly after 12.30 p.m.
