RACING CAR CRASHES
16 Spectators Injured (N Z P.A -Reuter—Copyright) PHOENIX (Arizona). November 18 A racing car driven by Elmer George crashed through a fence and into a group of ■ ''pectators at the 100-mile Bobby Ball memorial race in Phoenix today At least 16 persons have been reported injured, but George was unhurt. United Press International reported The accident occurred on the forty-ninth lap and the race was stopped on the fiftyfirst lap. with the leader. Bobby Marshman, declared the winner The race was stopped because the fence could not be repaired. A spectator. Air Force Lieutenant Eugene Soeder. said: “The car came toward the fence, started to skid, and rolled over in the crowd” A hospital spokesman said later that some of the injured were in a serious condition.
