NINE-HOUR POWER CUT
Pole Broken In Accident
All of Rangiora was without power for nearly nine hours yesterday, and some parts of the borough longer, as the result of the main feeder being broken when a heavy truck ran into a pole in Percival street. Driven by P. Robinson, Ohoka, the truck ran off the road, near a bend above the Victoria street junction, and snapped a pole off about six feet above ground. Although work to renew the supply began shortly after the accident at 3.30 a.m. it was not until mid-day that most of the borough was cut in. The south-west sector was not brought in until 3.20 pm. and a small number of other consumers were later still in regaining a supply. Robinson escaped with minor injuries and after being checked by Dr. R. L. Thompson, was allowed to return home.
