Quick Response To Flight Call
i (NX. Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 4. Only 37 minutes was required to prepare a Royal New Zealand Air Force Sunderland for a mercy mission from Lauthala Bay, Fiji, to ;Makogai, the ‘‘Leper Island,” on Friday. J The RN.Z.AF. No. 5 Squadron received a call at 4.6 p.m. to take a Makogai woman with peritonitis for hospital treatment, and by 4.43 pm. the Sunderland was airborne for the leper station. On its arrival back at Lauthala Bay at 6.10 pm., the woman was transferred to a waiting ambulance which took her to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva.
