Indoor Basketball Canterbury Beaten, 40-37 In N.Z. Title Final

WELLINGTON, August 31. Rotorua won the 1962 New Zealand men's indoor basketball championship tonight when it beat Nelson. 37-28. in the final. Otago won the final of the lower division, defeating Canterbury, 40-37. Down 14-23 at halftime. Otago came back well to dominate the second spell and forge ahead. Playing a tight zone defence. Rotorua upset the Nelson attack and kept the score to minor proportions for the early part ot the first spell. Nelson's teamwork was superior. and It seemed this would tel! when it led, 10-9. at the interval. Rotorua failing behind through losing position several times while on attack.
Soon after the second half began Rotorua suddenly came to life, took the lead and opened a gap Particularly brilliant was C Spedding. who shot outstand-
ingly from well out. Nelsotfc staged a comeback but failed to make up the leeway. Other results were:— -• Hutt Valley 43. Palmerston North 41; Rotorua 36. Auckland 24; Nelson 45. Hamilton 29; Wanganui 55. Wellington 46; ' Hamilton defaulted to Auckland.
