FAST BLOOD DELIVERY
Woman’s Life Saved
The action of the Christchurch City Council traffic department in providing a
siren-equipped car to trar.spert biocd to a critically ill patient in Calvary Hospital last Thursday almost certainly saved the patient's life, said Dr. F. W. Gunz. who is in charge of tfhe blood bank, last evening. A call was received at the blood bank at Christchurch Hospital at 230 pm. reporting that a woman had collaiosvd aff'er an operation at Calvary Hospital and blood was urgently required.
A taxi was ordered to take two bottles of blood to the hospital and the traffic department was asked to provide an escort. The taxi-driver, who was carrying the b'ood, was taken to Calvary Hospital in a traffic department car summoned by radio. It made the trip in short time with its siren blaring. The taxi-driver was then returned to his car, which he had left at the bicod bank.
The parter.t recovered after being given the blood. The traffic suiperinitendent <Mr J. F Thomas) said that if the name of the woman could be ascertained, his deoartment would send her a bouquet of flowers and a “get-weiU” message.
