FISHING FEES
Objections To Increase (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN. August 31 South Island acclimatisation societies are irate at the unexpected decision of the Marine Department to increase fishing licence fees. They are angry not only because they were not consulted or given any hint that increases were proposed, but also because they have still not been officially notified of the increases “It is decidedly discourteous that we should have to hear of the increases through the press." Mr J. A. Miller, president of the Otago Acclimatisation Society, said today “We feel that the time is most inopportune to increase fees, but the department has not even given us an opportunity to protest" Mr Miller said that at the last meeting of the South Island acclimatisation societies. there was discussion about licences, but the department's representative refused to say anything. Anything he did say he asked them to regard as confidential The president of the South Island societies (Mr G Kelly) had stated that the societies’ advisory committee had been told there would be an increase. Mr Miller said. “But the committee was told that this information was confidential and that societies were not to be told ”
