FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—An anti-cyclone is centred to the east of New Zealand. A shallow depression lies over the central Tasman Sea with a deeper depression over the south-western Tasman Sea. Forecast:—

Canterbury.—Moderate north-westerlies inland, moderate north-easterlies about the coast; partly cloudy, except for some scattered shower about the Alps; moderate day temperatures. Outlook: some showers are likely, especially in western areas; considerable fair periods elsewhere. Marlborough and Nelson.—North-west or northerly winds, strong about Cook Strait; moderate elsewhere; becoming cloudy; a few showers likely about the hills; moderate day temperatures. Outlook: showery.

West Coast—Moderate northerly winds predominating; mainly cloudy; some occasional showers, especially in the south; moderate temperatures. Outlook: showery.
