MARKET IN THAILAND

Opportunities For N.Z.

(N.Z. Press Association)

DUNEDIN, August 26.

The Thai Foreign Minister (Mr Thanat Khoman) today said that a New Zealand trade mission to Thailand would prove “very valuable.” He said his Government would make facilities available for a mission to meet Thai merchants.

Thailand had no import restrictions and virtually no exchange restrictions. “Thailand is importing each year about £2 million worth of milk products—milk powder and condensed milk, but the market is taken by European countries.” he said. “I have not seen any of your firms there. Perhaps they don't know about it." Mr Khoman said he had seen a number of products at the Christchurch Industries Fair which could find a market in Thailand.

Asked to comment on the suggestion of a trade mission the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Go’zi, who accompanied the tour party, said: “There are great trade prospects in Thailand, and the sooner they are opened the better.”
