TAX-FREE GIFTS
University Seeks Concessions
A plea for gifts to universities to be deductible for tax purposes will be made by the Cansrbury University Council to the Minister of Finance (Mr Lake)
The Vice-Chancellor (Dr L. L. Pownall) said the Government was understood to be considering a draft bill on tax-free gifts. It would be advantageous to all concerned if gifts for university buildings, halls of residence, equipment, and scholarships we-e included
The Chancellor (Mr C H Perkins) said the universities had long wanted this concession which greatly aided many overseas universities
Dr. J L. Robson Secretary for Justice, will leave today to attend a conference of penal administrators in Perth—(PA.)
