AUCKLAND. August 2S. Canterbury and Rotorua tied for first place in the first grade championship at the New Zealand women s basketball .tournament at Auckland on Saturday. They scored 18 points for eight wins and a loss each. Matamata was second with 11 points, followed by Wanganui and Wellington (10). and Auckland (8). Manawatu won the second grade with 18 points from Northland (17) and Waikato (15). South Canterbury was fourth with 14. 1 Auckland Minor and Canterbury Sub-associations tied with 18 points for the third-grade championship, with Putaruru next with 16 points. Unbeaten Team Central King Country was unbeaten with 20 points to win the fourth grade. In the feature matches on Saturday, Rotorua beat Auckland. 27-22, and Canterbury beat Otago. 27-21. As one of the key games of the afternoon the encounter between Canterbury and Otago provided plenty of excitement.
