Sir, —When will the garrulous minority cease to campaign under the banner of Christendom? The skull and crossbones is the emblem for those who would rob the public of yet another freedom.—Yours, etc., ROBERT BRETT. August 24, 1962.
Sir, —I am an ordinary Kiwi. I work at my trade, I love my wife and children, and I drink occasionally. From an early age I have read nearly every book I could lay my hands onfilthy ones and all—and enjoyed them. I await a Bardot film in an ecstasy of excitement However, I feel no desire to rape th’ girl down the street, bash my workmates or drink meths. What is wrong with me? Perhaps the self-righteous “do-good-ers” could explain. Whatever the outcome, I hope they will not launch a campaign to burn all books they consider unsuitable (didn’t Hitler do this?) and stop the peasants thinking for themselves. On reflection this may be the answer, for recently I was charged with exceeding 40 miles an hour. Would this be due to reading “Racing Car Design and Development”?— Yours, etc.. ALSO ONE-EYED. August 24. 1962.
